Ovarian Cancer Awareness

5th Annual Make Teal Real Golf Outing
The 5th Annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Golf Outing took place on June 25th at the Cross Creek Golf Course in Morrison, IL. The outing was a huge success thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, family and friends. Over $13,000 was raised and will be earmarked for ovarian cancer research, building community awareness and supporting local women/families whose lives have been touched by ovarian cancer.

"The Morrison Community Hospital Foundation and the Make Teal Real Committee would like to thank all of those who participated in the event. Every year it is amazing to see the ongoing support we receive from the people in this community and surrounding areas. Offering a simple "Thank You" for your contributions never quite feels like it's enough to us. We would like to tell the community how much we appreciate your continued support for The Make Teal Real Ovarian Cancer Awareness. We hope we can continue to demonstrate to you that we value your support and that we are truly making a difference," said Maggie Jones.

The Make Teal Real committee was formed with a mission to raise funds and create community awareness about ovarian cancer. Their passion to help others with ovarian cancer started when Jan Snyder, of Morrison, IL was diagnosed with ovarian cancer five years ago. From that day forward, Jan wanted women to become aware of the disease and the silent symptoms. Today, her friends and family are still working diligently to make her dream come true.

Ovarian cancer is the 5th leading cause of death among women in the United States. A woman’s lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is 1 in 67; it is an insidious disease that often strikes without warning or cause. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and subtle, making it difficult to diagnose. According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that of the 21,880 new cases diagnosed, 13,850 women died from the deadly disease in 2010.

The signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer may include:
Bloating, abdominal pressure, fullness or swelling
 Gas, persistent indigestion or nausea
Changes in bowel habits, such as constipation
Changes in bladder habits, including a frequent need to urinate
Loss of appetite or quickly feeling full
A lack of energy that becomes persistent
Increased abdominal girth or clothes fitting tighter around your waist
 Lower back pain
 Pelvic discomfort or pain
